Alice Aterianus-Owanga
Alice Aterianus-Owanga is an anthropologist, currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the University of Geneva and the University of Cape Town. She has worked for years on music, politics and identity in Gabon, and later developed a research project around dance, migration and identity constructions in Senegalese dance classes between Europe (specifically France and Switzerland) and Senegal. A documentary maker, she is the author of a series of papers in academic journals. Aterianus-Owanga has also co-edited a Special Issue of the journal Politique Africaine on rap and politics in Africa (2016) as well as, a collective book dealing with the relationship between music and archive and another volume titled The Violence of Daily Life in Libreville (coedited with Maixant Mebiame Zomo and Joseph Tonda, Academia Bruylant, L’Harmattan, 2016). Her book Le rap ça vient d’ici: Musiques, pouvoir et identité dans le Gabon contemporain received the prize Coup de Coeur from the Music Academy Charles Cros in 2018.
