Eleftheria Ioannidou

Eleftheria Ioannidou is an assistant professor in theatre/performance in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Prior to her current appointment, she was a lecturer at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and a Humboldt Fellow at the Freie Universität of Berlin. She studied theatre at the University of Athens (BA) and Royal Holloway, University London (MRs) and read for a doctorate in classics at the University of Oxford. Her research interests lie in the reception, adaptation and performance of Greek tragedy in the twentieth century. She has published the monograph Greek Fragments in Postmodern Frames: Rewriting Tragedy 1970–2005 (Oxford University Press, 2017). Her ongoing research investigates performances of Greek tragedy under fascist regimes in Germany, Italy and Greece in the interwar period.
