Frances Gateward

She researches and teaches in the areas of international cinema and popular culture, focusing primarily on South Korea and the United States. She serves on the editorial boards of the Quarterly Review of Film and Video and the Journal of Boyhood Studies, and the advisory board of the Contemporary Approaches to Film and Television series at Wayne State University Press.  She was the founding co-editor of the Journal of Japanese and Korean Cinema and one of the first scholars to receive an overseas research grant from KOFIC. Her publications include the award-winning anthology The Blacker the Ink: African Americans and Comic Books, Graphic Novels and Sequential Art (Rutgers University Press), Seoul Searching:  Culture and Identity in Contemporary South Korean Cinema (SUNY).
