Gelsey Bell

Gelsey Bell is a Brooklyn-based American singer, songwriter and scholar. She has received a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award, performed on Broadway and released multiple albums, including the sound walk Cairns. Her forthcoming opera mɔɹnɪŋ (morning//mourning) (2023) will premiere in the Prototype Festival. She is a co-artistic director of thingNY and Varispeed. She has a Ph.D. in performance studies from NYU and has published articles in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Voice Studies (for which she is an associate editor), TDR/The Drama Review (for which she is a contributing editor), and Tempo, Theater and Performance Research. She is a faculty member at the College of Performing Arts at the New School.
