James L. Wescoat

James Wescoat is Aga Khan Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture and Geography at MIT, where he taught courses on Islamic architecture and the environment, Islamic gardens, water resources, and disaster-resilient design. His research has concentrated on water systems in South Asia from the garden to river basin scales. He co-led the first study of climate impacts on water resources in the Indus River basin of Pakistan in 1990, contributed to a World Bank study of climate impacts on agriculture in the Indus in 2013, and presented a paper on the first thirty years of climate change research in Pakistan in 2023.
