Journal of Fandom Studies seeks to offer scholars a dedicated, peer-reviewed publication that promotes current scholarship into the fields of fan and audience studies across a variety of media. We focus on the critical exploration, within a wide range of disciplines and fan cultures, of issues surrounding production and consumption of popular media (including film, music, television, sports and gaming).

Aims & Scope

Journal of Fandom Studies is an interdisciplinary double-blind peer-reviewed journal, first published by Intellect in 2012. This journal offers scholars from around the globe a dedicated publication that promotes current scholarship into the fields of fan studies and audience studies. JFS focuses on the critical exploration of key issues within a wide range of disciplines and fan cultures; engages with text, performance, history, material culture and a variety of media; and fosters new areas of enquiry that take us beyond the bounds of current scholarship.

Peer Review Policy

All articles undergo initial editorial screening either by the journal's Editorial Team and/or incumbent Guest Editors. Articles then undergo a rigorous anonymous peer review by two referees, following the guidance in Intellect's 'Peer review instructions'. Based on this feedback, the Editors will communicate a decision and revision suggestions to authors. To appeal an editorial decision, please contact the main Editor who will consider your case.

General Call for Papers

The editors welcome general papers (between 6000 and 9000 words), interviews and book reviews (between 800 and 1200 words) as well as suggestions for thematic issues.

All articles submitted should be original work and must not be under consideration by other publications.

Papers on all the many aspects of fan studies and audience studies are invited. The following list of potential topics is extensive but not exhaustive:
