Peter Brown

Peter Brown is Professor in the Department of Langues, Lettres et Sciences Humaines and member of the Research Group Equipe d’Accueil Sociétés Traditionnelles et Contemporaines en Océanie (EASTCO) at the Université de la Polynésie française in Tahiti. Before joining the UPF, he was in the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics and formerly head of the School of Language Studies, at the Australian National University, Canberra. He has also taught on several occasions at the Université de la Nouvelle-Calédonie. He has written about the francophone Pacific over many years (Living Heritage: Kanak Culture Today, Noumea: Agence de Développement de la Culture Kanak, 2000; The Kanak Apple Season, Canberra: Pandanus Press, 2004). He recently published (co-ed. Jean-Yves Faberon), 101 mots pour comprendre l’Australie, Noumea: CDPNC, 2018). His works include a number of contributions to the International Journal of Francophone Studies, beginning in 1998 with a piece on the Noumea Accord of that year. In September 2018, he was invited to participate in the Salon du Livre Océanien (SILO) in Noumea. Peter Brown is an Officier dans l’Ordre des Palmes académiques.
