Jessica Maufort

Jessica Maufort received her Ph.D. in 2018 from Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). She specializes in postcolonial ecocriticism, ecopoetics and magic realism examined in Indigenous and non-Indigenous fiction from Australasia and Canada. Related research interests include trauma studies, animal studies, ecospirituality, Pacific literature and speculative fiction. Jessica is the postgraduate officer of the New Zealand Studies Association (NZSA), an editorial assistant of Recherche littéraire/Literary Research and the book review editor of the Journal of New Zealand & Pacific Studies. Her most recent publications are a co-edited volume Forays into Contemporary South African Theatre: Devising New Stage Idioms (2020) and a book chapter on ‘The magic realist compost in the Anthropocene’, for Dwellings of Enchantment: Writing and Reenchanting the Earth (2020). With support from the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS), Jessica is currently pursuing postdoctoral research at ULB, investigating the ecopoetics of trauma in the Anthropocene.
