Simon Morley

Simon Morley is an artist and art historian. He is the author of Writing on the Wall: Word and Image in Modern Art (Thames & Hudson, 2001), Seven Keys to Modern Art (Thames & Hudson, 2019) and The Simple Truth: The Monochrome in Modern Art (Reaktion Books, 2021). He is also the editor of The Sublime: Documents in Contemporary Art (The MIT Press/Whitechapel Art Gallery, 2010). His reviews and articles have appeared in Art Monthly, Tate Etc., Modern Painters and the Independent on Sunday. His academic writings have been published in Third Text, World Art, the Journal of Visual Art Practice, and the Journal of Contemporary Painting. His essays have also appeared in numerous catalogues, including the Lisson Gallery’s Lee Ufan exhibition in 2015, and the Retrospective of the Korean artist Chang Sung-Hwa, forthcoming at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, Republic of Korea (22 May–29 August 2021). His artworks have been exhibited internationally. He lives in the Republic of Korea where he is an associate professor in fine art at Dankook University.
