Wendy Leeks

Wendy Leeks is a retired academic, originally an art historian who taught at several universities. Latterly she was an academic manager (Associate Dean) at Southampton Solent University. Her Doctoral thesis (Leeds University, 1990) was on the work of nineteenth-century French artist Ingres, using a Lacanian and Freudian psychoanalytic approach to examine feminist and specifically lesbian spectatorship of his female nudes. She has published articles and book chapters on this material, along with other analyses in art history, cultural studies, feminist and queer theory. Her most recent publication (2019) was an examination of the lesbian subtext of Freudian concepts of femininity. Leeks has been a consultant and guest editor to this journal for the past three years.
