Aaron Dickinson Sachs

Aaron Dickinson Sachs is an assistant professor of media technologies and culture in the Communication Department at Saint Mary’s College of California. He holds a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Iowa, and his work focuses on the intersection of media, technology and culture with a primary concern for the examination of power, particularly as it relates to traditionally marginalized positions. This manifests in both the form and content of his work, inasmuch as these are distinct yet interdependent qualities. More generally Sachs is interested in issues of race, gender, sexuality and class, as well as alternative methodologies, media and modes of intellectual enquiry, discourse and expression. He wrote his dissertation on film representations of hip hop in the 1980s, contributes regularly to In Media Res, and has published essays on hip hop as well as on growing up with lesbian parents. He also serves on the board of COLAGE, a national network for people with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer parents.
