Abigail Hammond

Abigail’s background includes the experimental dance at Dartington College of Art in the 1970s before she studied dance theatre at the Laban Centre, London 1982–85, where she specialized in costume design. Over the past 30 years she has created costumes in over 130 choreographic works. Her designs for Sadler’s Wells’ RIOT Offspring, were part of the UK winning entry at the 2016 Prague Quadrennial. While course leader in costume design at Wimbledon College of Art (2010–17) Abigail developed research on the uniqueness of costume design in contemporary dance, contributing to national and international research activities in conjunction with the Society of British Theatre Designers, the V&A, the Association of Courses in Theatre Design and the University of the Arts London. Abigail completed the MA Visual Arts: Designer Maker course at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London in 2019. Her practice explores empathy through sculpture, performance and multi-media installation and current activism in relation to menopause.
