Alexander G. Maier

Associate Professor Alexander Maier is based at the Australian National University, Canberra. As a molecular parasitologist he ‘looks under the bonnets’ of parasites to discover how they find, attach, enter and survive within their hosts. He is also interested in the public perception of parasites and their contribution to biological and cultural systems. His work mainly focuses on the mechanisms by which the malaria parasite causes disease. His team also investigates the differences in male and female malaria parasites and here in particular the role of the female specific ‘g-spot’.
