Andrew Wass

Andrew Wass, by experimenting with improvisational indeterminate processes, formalizes the coincidental and emphasizes the conscious processes of composition. Influenced heavily by his undergraduate studies of Biochemistry at U.C. San Diego, Andrew works by creating a defined palette in order to generate a myriad of possibilities. He has taught at universities, festivals and theatres throughout Europe, the United States, and in Japan and Malaysia. A member of Lower Left, a performance collective based in Marfa TX, he is a graduate of the MA programme in Solo/Dance/Authorship at the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum für Tanz in Berlin. Currently he is pursuing his Ph.D. in dance at Texas Woman’s University, looking at the intra-actions of philosophy, cognitive science and improvised dance-making. His performance work has been shown in San Diego, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Marfa, Tijuana, New York, Tokyo, Geneva, Basel and Berlin.
