Angela Andersen

Angela Andersen’s research addresses the role of architecture for minority Islamic communities via site studies and extensive oral history work. Following a postdoctoral fellowship with the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she served as the executive director of a Canadian architecture museum. Andersen received the Margaret B. Ševčenko Prize in Islamic Art and Culture for her writing on Alevi ceremonial sites in Turkey, and has contributed to handbooks and journals examining the relationship between religious life and architecture. She is currently editing a volume that explores spaces of Islamic praxis beyond the mosque.
