Ashley D. Ellis
Ashley Ellis is a writer and filmmaker who tells stories to inspire empathy and agency for a global audience. Ellis attended the University of Southern California, where she obtained a BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing and a master’s degree in professional writing with an emphasis in screenwriting. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in film studies at the University of Cape Town with co-supervision by the Department of Education. Her academic interests include film and visual studies, filmmaking practice, critical and participatory pedagogies, cultural-historical activity theory, critical consciousness, identity development and social emotional learning.
