Aska Sakuta

Aska Sakuta is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Chichester, working on an interdisciplinary research project (collaboration between the Dance Department and the Department of Sports & Exercise Science) involving the idea of meditation and eastern philosophy embedded in dance and somatic practices. She holds an MFA from the University of California, Irvine, specializing in improvisation and eastern movement philosophies, and a BA from Waseda University (Japan), with a focus on East–West comparison of performing arts. Her scholarly and artistic work has continuously focused on eastern movement traditions and their presence in today’s western dance field. Her current research project extends the context of eastern philosophy to multiple academic fields such as positive psychology, cognitive neuroscience and kinaesthetic empathy.
