Athina Papanagiotou

Athina Papanagiotou conducted her Ph.D. research in the areas of critical legal studies, philosophy of law, gender studies and theories of language. Her doctoral dissertation (Department of Law, Democritus University and Birkbeck Law School, University of London) problematizes the traditional methodology of interpretation of positive law by investigating the performativity of legal language and its normativity in the light of deconstruction theory. Her main research interests lie at the intersection of law, gender and politics focusing on relationality, performativity, kinship, recognition and resistance. Working as a science adviser to Greece’s Minister for Health, she is engaged with the protection of patients’ rights, the legal protection of intersex children, transgender people’s access to health care, strategies on drugs and addictions and the regulation of the medical use of cannabis.
