Belgin Turan Özkaya
Belgin Turan Özkaya, who is a professor of architectural history at Middle East Technical University, received her B.Arch. and M.Sc. from the same university and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. She was the co-director of the British Academy project, 'Ambivalent Geographies', which focused on West Asia within the framework of the Ottoman British interactions and led to her current work on the connected histories of Ottoman and British cultures of collecting.
She has publications on the culturally intertwined histories of nineteenth and twentieth-century architecture among which are Rethinking Architectural Historiography (Routledge, 2006),
'Transpositions on the Edge of Europe: Ambivalence and Difference in Architecture' (Journal of Architecture, 2011), 'Ambivalent Architectures from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic'
(New Perspectives on Turkey, 2014), and a special collection on 'Travel' (Architectural Histories, 2016). In 2017-2018 she was an AKPIA Associate at Harvard University’s Department of History
of Art and Architecture.
