Beti Ellerson
Beti Ellerson, founder-director of the Centre for the Study and Research of African Women in Cinema, has written and spoken widely on African women in cinema, notably, as keynote speaker at the Colloquy on Francophone African Women Filmmakers held in Paris in 2012.
She was producer/host of “Reels of Colour”, a series showcasing independent filmmaking by people of colour, which aired on Washington DC-area community television from 1997 to 2000. She is author of the book, Sisters of the Screen: Women of Africa on Film, Video and Television (Africa World Press, 2000), and producer of the documentary, Sisters of the Screen: African Women in Cinema/Cinema d’Afrique au féminin (2002). Since 1995 she has taught courses in African Cinema, Africana Studies, Women Studies and Visual Culture.
