Cathy Gale

Dr Cathy Gale (SFHEA) is engaged in a critical practice that employs the tools and strategies of design to envision more expansive notions of the discipline. She set up the Alternative Art School as a radical pedagogic research project in 2013–14: a critical space for student autonomy and provocations across disciplines and institutions. This sociopolitical approach is developed through her roles as a graphic artist, DJ and design educator since graduating from the RCA in 1993. She is currently course leader of MA Communication Design: Graphic Design at Kingston School of Art and worked for many years at the London College of Communication (UAL) as an associate lecturer across theory and studio-based practice. Her research interests include collective design, the potential of discos as new spaces for critical (design) discourse and performative pedagogies.
