Claudia Azevedo

Cláudia Azevedo holds doctoral and master degrees in Music from UNIRIO (Rio de Janeiro). She is a lecturer and journalist, and completed post-doctoral training (FAPERJ grant – 2010-2015) in music semiotics and cognition. She was the assistant editor for the IASPM Journal (2009–2010), reviewer for several academic journals on rock/pop/metal, co-editor of the book Made in Brazil (Routledge, 2015) and board member of Metal Music Studies journal. Her doctoral dissertation addresses music semiotics and is entitled ‘“It’s meant to be dark!” Codifications of black metal as an audiovisual genre’. She is currently an independent scholar.
