E. E. Balcos

E.E. Balcos, BA, MFA, RSDE is a professor of dance at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. In 1982, he began training with modern dance pioneer Hanya Holm while also engaging in contact improvisation. He has led a successful career as a performer and choreographer for over 35 years and was the artistic director and choreographer for his own dance company E.E.MOTION. His research explorations focus through a lens of somatic movement as it is applied to improvisation, creative process, performance, interdisciplinary collaborations and education. He has presented and performed at numerous venues internationally including Body-Mind Centering® Association Conferences and Bill Evan’s Annual Somatic Dance Conference & Performance Festival in the U.S.; ISMETA Dance and Somatic Conferences, the Dance and Somatic Practices Conference in Coventry, UK; the Body IQ Festival in Berlin, Germany and with the dance company, Movement Migration in New York City, DAP Festival in Pietrasanta, Italy, and the DZUL International Dance Festival in Campeche, Mexico. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Dance & Somatic Practices and is on the board of directors of ISMETA. Balcos is currently pursuing a Body-Mind Centering® Somatic Movement Educator certification and is also an avid gardener and landscaper.
