Farhan Karim

Farhan Karim is Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Kansas. He is the author of Of Greater Dignity than Riches: Austerity and Housing Design in India (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2019) and editor of Routledge Companion to Architecture and Social Engagement (Routledge, 2018). He is currently working on a book manuscript focusing on the partition of South Asia and the involvement of Euro-American architects in postcolonial Pakistan (1947–71). Karim is also editing a book entitled Architectural Pedagogy in the Global South. His research has been supported by the Graham Foundation, Canadian Centre for Architecture, Aga Khan Program in Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Mellon-Volkswagen fellowship, the Getty Research Institute, and Australian Leadership Award. In conjunction with the Getty Research Institute, Karim is co-directing a research project titled Art and Architecture of Partition and Confederation.
