Gerda Gemser received her Ph.D. in Management at the Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University Rotterdam). Gerda does research on design and innovation management in the creative industries. She has been a visiting scholar at leading research universities, including The Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania (United States) and the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia (Canada). Over the last fifteen years, she has held assistant and associate professorships at different Dutch universities, including Erasmus University and Delft University of Technology (Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering). She has collaborated with Dutch government, Dutch professional design associations and Dutch industry on different large-scale research projects to examine the role of design in the corporate world. Currently she is one of five international Professors of Design appointed by RMIT University to further strengthen the university’s leadership and expansion of design research. Gerda has published in leading management and design journals including, for example, Organization Science, Organization Studies, Journal of Management, Long Range Planning, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Design Studies and International Journal of Design. She is part of the editorial board of Journal of Product Innovation Management and Journal of Design, Business & Society. She has co-edited and co-wrote the book Strategic Design: Eight Essential Practices Every Strategic Designer Must Master, published in 2016 by BIS Publishers (see www.strategicdesignbook.com).
