Hadeel Abdelhameed is an Iraqi Australian Ph.D. candidate at La Trobe University, Victoria, Australia. Her research focuses on the depiction of female characters in Australian and Iraqi drama and theatre about war. Abdelhameed contrasts the different dramatic identities and images of Australian and Iraqi women to examine how women are involved in national and/or global conflicts and war. This research attempts to bridge a gap in the scholarship of comparative theatrical studies in gender and war. Abdelhameed’s publications ask an important and timely question in the era of #metoo, which demands that women’s voices and experiences be paid greater attention than they have in the past.
