Howard R. Engel

Howard R. Engel is a recently retired library technician living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, site of Marshall McLuhan’s formative years and graduate (1984) of University of Manitoba (Bachelor of Arts, economics major and philosophy minor), Marshall McLuhan’s first post-secondary alma mater. Backed by the Engel Family Fund at the Winnipeg Foundation, Howard founded the Marshall McLuhan Initiative in 2007 ‘To honour, celebrate and extend the life’s work of Herbert Marshall McLuhan (1911–80), who grew up in Winnipeg, graduated from the University of Manitoba, was a devout Catholic, a beloved professor of English literature, prophetic poet, satirist and the renowned communications theorist/visionary and media guru that we recognize today’.
