Javier Saavedra

Dr Francisco Javier Saavedra Macías is associate professor at the Department of Experimental Psychology in the University of Seville and member of the Laboratory of Human Activity Research Group. The analysis of identity re-construction processes of people diagnosed with schizophrenia during the recovery’ journey is his main research field. Moreover, he was a professional carer of mental health patients in supporting houses for eight years. He is also research fellow at the Andalusian Foundation for the Social Integration of Person with Schizophrenia, where he coordinates several research projects related to the recovery of people with schizophrenia. Moreover, he has an active role in different national and international research projects on the use of humanities and creative practices as mutual recovery tools and the influence of gender and culture in mental health. He is interested in the use of the art and literature as therapy and as a method to teach practice in mental health. As member of the International Health Humanities Network and the Madness and Literature Network he was the chair of the Fifth International Health Humanities Conference held in Seville in 2016.
