Jessica Sternfeld
Jessica Sternfeld is professor of music (musicology) in the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music at Chapman University, where she teaches music in cultural context, musical theatre history, opera history and western art music history. Her work specializes in the cultural work of musicals of the last sixty years. Her work on stage and screen musicals appears in her monograph The Megamusical (Indiana University Press, 2006), as well as The Oxford Handbook of Music and Disability Studies (Oxford University Press, 2015), The Cambridge Companion to the Musical (Cambridge University Press, 2008), The Oxford Handbook of the American Musical (Oxford University Press, 2013) and the journal Studies in Musical Theatre, which she currently co-edits with Elizabeth Wollman. They also co-edited the first volume of essays dedicated to interdisciplinary approaches to recent musicals, The Routledge Companion to the Contemporary Stage Musical (Routledge, 2019). Forthcoming is The Oxford Handbook of the Television Musical (Oxford University Press), co-edited with Raymond Knapp. Her current research explores the intersection of musical theatre and trauma studies, as well as musicals on TV.
