Joanne Rutkowski, Professor Emeritus of Music Education at The Pennsylvania State University, is primarily an early childhood and elementary general music specialist. Her research has focused on the nature of children’s singing voices and techniques and materials for helping uncertain singers in a classroom setting. She also has explored issues related to informal instruction in early childhood, graduate education, preparation of music teacher educators, curriculum and learning theory. She has presented her work at international, national, regional and state conferences and symposia and published in numerous journals and books. She held leadership and editorial positions with ISME, NAfME, ECMMA and PMEA, and is the music advisor for the PBS children’s television series, ‘Pinkalicious and Peterrific’, developed and produced by WGBH Boston. In 2018, she was the Hall of Honor inductee for the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association (ECMMA).
