Kalamandalam M. P. S. Namboodiri
M. P. S Namboodiri is a renowned Kathakali scholar, performer and teacher. On completion of his studies in Kathakali, he joined the Kalamandalam faculty in 1968, and retired as its principal in 1998. He was reappointed at Kerala Kalamandalam as Dean of the Department of Kathakali in 2007 when the institution was upgraded to a Deemed University. He is the co-author of the work Kathakaliyude Rangapadha Charithram (The History of Kathakali’s Stage Language, 2007), which was selected for the prestigious Kalamandalam award for the best scholarly work on Kathakali in the same year. He was also honoured for his outstanding contributions to Kathakali by the Government of India’s National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama in 2013.
