Karen E. Macfarlane

Karen Macfarlane is associate professor in the department of English at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada. Her current research focuses on monsters in popular culture at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Her publications that focus on horror and the Gothic include ‘Market value: American Horror Story’s housing crisis’ in Neoliberal Gothic (Manchester University Press, 2017), ‘Here be monsters’ in Text Matters (2016), ‘The monstrous house of Gaga’ in PopGoth (Manchester University Press, 2012) and ‘Mummy knows best’ (Horror Studies, 2010). She has an article forthcoming in Gothic Studies on the Creepy Little Girl.
