Katherine Townsend

Katherine Townsend (Ph.D.) is a professor of fashion and textile practice and leads the Digital Craft and Embodied Knowledge group in the Fashion and Textile Research Centre, NTU. Her research interests (and Ph.D. supervision) encompass sustainable, craft-based design informed by environment-centred methodologies. Projects include sustaining artisan textile crafts in Guatemala, supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF 2018–22) and Redesigning Reusable PPE Isolation Gowns in collaboration with healthcare workers, the NHS and industry partners in the United Kingdom (AHRC 2021–23).
