Liu Jianhua

Liu Jianhua (b. 1962) lives and works in Shanghai, China. Since the late 1980s, he started his experimental practices in the context of contemporary art. In 2008, he shifted his focus to ‘no meaning, no content’, which declared the fairly new exploration, and therefore has developed his own system of expression for contemporary art. Liu Jianhua is one of China’s best-known contemporary artists who experiment with comprehensive materials. His works have been exhibited at the international art exhibition the 57th Venice Biennale (2017) and the 2nd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2007). Liu Jianhua’s works have been collected by public institutions including Tate Modern (London, UK) and MOMA (New York, USA).
