Louis H. Kauffman

Louis H. Kauffman is a topologist working in knot theory and its relationships with statistical mechanics, quantum theory, algebra, combinatorics and foundations. He taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago since 1971. Since 2017, Kauffman has been a Professor Emeritus at the same institution. He continues to do research in mathematics and cybernetics, and he organizes the Quantum Topology Seminar at UIC, gives reading courses and recently finalized research for a grant with a group of Russian topologists in Novosibirsk. Kauffman is the recipient of the Warren McCulloch Award (1993) and the Norbert Wiener Medal (2013) of the American Society for Cybernetics.
