Luís Miguel Carolino

Luís Miguel Carolino is director of the department of history at the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL) and formerly director of the undergraduate course on modern and contemporary history at that university. He is a member of the International Commission of History of Universities and of the General Council of the History of Mathematics National Seminar. He has published several books and articles in leading journals, including: ‘Science, patronage and academies in early seventeenth century Portugal: The scientific academy of the nobleman and university professor André de Almada’ (History of Science, 54: 2, 2016) and Medir os Céus para Dominar a Terra: A Astronomia na Escola Politécnica de Lisboa (Measure the Skies to Dominate the Land: Astronomy in the Lisbon Polytechnic School) (with T. S. Mota, Lisbon: Museu de Ciência da Universidade de Lisboa, 2013).
