Maija Mäkikalli

Maija Mäkikalli is a cultural historian who has published several articles in the field of history of design and material culture in Finland. This research has taken up topics such as furniture and interior design, ships and ocean liners as experienced spaces, the history of the Organization of Industrial Designers in Finland (TKO) and easy chairs as gendered objects in the late 1920s. Together with Riitta Laitinen, she has co-edited a book Esine ja aika: Materiaalisen kulttuurin historiaa (Things and Time: Histories of Material Culture) (The Publishing House of The Finnish Literature Society, 2010). She works as a lecturer in the Department of Fine Art and Cultural Studies, Faculty of Art and Design, University of Lapland, Finland.
