Malaika Sarco-Thomas

Malaika Sarco-Thomas is a dancer and scholar based at the University of Chester, where she leads the BA Dance programme in the Department of Music, Media and Performance and investigates how our 'animal body' can be discovered through movement. Her choreography and practice explore the communicative potential of contact improvisation, and she curates festivals, performance, and conferences on this theme. Publications include Thinking Touch in Partnering and Contact Improvisation: Philosophy, Pedagogy, Practice (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2020), Interdisciplinarity in the Performing Arts: Contemporary Perspectives (Malta University Press, 2018) and a 2014 special issue of the Journal of Dance & Somatic Practices 6.2 on 'Contact [and] Improvisation'.
