Marco Ferrarese

Marco Ferrarese (www.marcoferrarese.com) is a Penang-based travel writer and book author who has written more than 100 articles about travel, culture and extreme music in Asia for a variety of international publications that include the BBC, CNN, the Guardian and Travel + Leisure. Ferrarese holds a Ph.D. in anthropology with a specialty on subcultural performance from Monash University Malaysia. His studies spurred his second non-fiction book, Banana Punk Rawk Trails (2015, SIRD), documenting his forays into the world of Malaysian and Indonesian metal punk. His third book, The Travels of Marco Yolo (2017, Gerak Budaya), collects 28 hair-raising trails through the darkest, less-trodden fringes of Asia.
