Michelle Jacques

Michelle Jacques is a Black Canadian curator of Caribbean heritage who lives and works on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. Her practice aims to uncover and challenge the colonial legacies of museums, shifting them towards greater self-awareness and wider relevance. In February 2021, she became Head of Exhibitions and Collections/Chief Curator at Remai Modern, Saskatoon; for 8 years before that she was Chief Curator at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. She has also held various roles in the Contemporary and Canadian departments of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; was the Director of Programming at the Centre for Art Tapes in Halifax; and taught courses in writing, art history and curatorial studies at NSCAD University, University of Toronto Mississauga, and OCAD University.
