Ming-Yan Lai

Ming-yan Lai teaches cultural studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her interdisciplinary work focuses on issues of alternative modernities, representations of and for the marginalized, oppositional discourses, and gender in intersection with ethnicity, class, and nationality. She is the author of 'Nativism and Modernity: Cultural Contestations in China and Taiwan under Global Capitalism' (SUNY, 2008). Her current research on the experiences, public articulations, and representations of foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong has been published in various journals.
