Paul Harvey

Paul Harvey is a lecturer in graphic design and fine art at Tyne Metropolitan College in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he is currently Programme Leader for the HND Graphic Design Programme. His areas of specialist interest include contemporary fine arts in the UK and British popular culture, in particular the UK Punk movement of the late 1970s. Other specialist interests include Herb Alpert and The Beach Boys. He played in various Punk and post-Punk bands from 1977 to 1985, including Chaos, The Two Way Mirrors, The Crazy Quilts and Happy Refugees. In 1985 he met Pauline Murray and Robert Blamire, and has played with them on and off ever since, including re-forming Penetration in 2001. In 2000 he joined the Stuckist movement, going on to make a significant contribution to the growth of Stuckism as a valid art movement. This included writing the manifesto 'Stuckism and Punk: Helping to get art back on its feet' with Charles Thomson, co-founder of the Stuckists in 2010. His Ph.D. thesis, entitled 'Stuckism, Punk attitude and fine art practice: Parallels and similarities', was completed in 2012.
