Paul R. Laird

Paul R. Laird is professor of musicology at the University of Kansas School of Music, where he also holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Theatre and Dance. He has published widely on the topic of American musical theatre, both in general terms and specifically on the works of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Schwartz. Two of his most recent books include Dueling Grounds: Revolution and Revelation in the Musical Hamilton (Oxford University Press, 2021), co-edited with Mary Jo Lodge, and West Side Story in Spain: The Transcultural Adaptation of an Iconic American Show (Cambridge University Press, 2022), co-authored with Gonzalo Fernández Monte.
