Philip Schlesinger
Philip Schlesinger is Professor in Cultural Policy and Academic Director of the Centre for Cultural Policy Research at the University of Glasgow. He has been a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute, a visiting professor at the University of Oslo, a visiting scholar at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Raspail in Paris, and has held the Queen Victoria Eugenia Chair at the Complutense University of Madrid. His research presently centres on literary ethnography, on creative industries policies, and on European communicative space. He has published widely on media and cultural questions. His most recent books are the co-authored Open Scotland? (Edinburgh: Polygon, 2001) and Mediated Access (Luton University Press, 2003). His most recent co-edited volumes are the Sage Handbook of Media Studies (Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications, Inc., 2004), and The European Union and the Public Sphere (London and New York: Routledge, 2007). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the Royal Society of Arts and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences.
He is a long-standing editor of Media, Culture & Society.
