Robert Dassanowsky

Robert Dassanowsky is professor of German and visual and performing arts, and director of film studies at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. His books include Austrian Cinema: A History (McFarland, 2005), New Austrian Film (co-ed. with O. Speck) (Berghahn, 2011), The Nameable and the Unnameable: Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s ‘Der Schwierige’ Revisited (co-ed. with M. Liebscher) (Iudicium, 2011), World Film Locations: Vienna (ed.) (Intellect, 2012), Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds: A Manipulation of Metafilm (ed.) (Continuum, 2012) and Screening Transcendence: Film under Austrofascism and the Hollywood Hope 1933-38 (Indiana University Press, 2018). Dassanowsky is president emeritus of the Austrian Studies Association and a sponsor of the Vienna Independent Shorts Film Festival (VIS). He is a delegate of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a member of the European Film Academy and fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He is also active as an independent film producer.
