Robert G. Hampson

Professor Robert Hampson FEA, FRSA is the author of three monographs on Conrad: Joseph Conrad: Betrayal and Identity (London: Macmillan, 1992), Cross-Cultural Encounters in Joseph Conrad’s Malay Fiction (London: Palgrave: 2000), and Conrad’s Secrets (London: Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), which won the Adam Gillon Award for the best book on Conrad of the year. He has also edited various works by Conrad – including Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, and Victory for Penguin – and was, for a number of years, the editor of The Conradian. He co-edited Conrad and Theory with Andrew Gibson (Amsterdam: Rodopi, 1998) and Conrad and Language with Katherine Isabel Baxter (Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press, 2018), which also won an Adam Gillon Award from the Joseph Conrad Society of America. He is currently Distinguished Teaching and Research Fellow at Royal Holloway, University of London, and Chair of the Joseph Conrad Society (UK).
