Roland Bleiker

Roland Bleiker is professor of international relations at the University of Queensland, where he directs the Rotary Peace Centre and coordinates an interdisciplinary research programme on visual politics. His research explores the political role of aesthetics, visuality and emotions, which he examines across a range of issues, from security, humanitarianism and peacebuilding to protest movements and the conflict in Korea. His books include Visual Global Politics (Routledge, 2018), Aesthetics and World Politics (Palgrave, 2009) and Divided Korea: Toward a Culture of Reconciliation (University of Minnesota Press, 2005). He is currently lead-investigator on a collaborative research project that examines the politics and ethics of visualizing humanitarian crises (see https://polsis.uq.edu.au/new-arc-funding-collaborative-project-visualising-humanitarian-crises.).
