Rory McKenzie

Rory McKenzie completed his Ph.D. in literary translation studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His research has predominantly focused on audio-visual translation, researching the challenges associated with retaining humour and cultural references, as well as the pedagogical applications of subtitling. He has also worked on projects involving cross-cultural translation and adaptation of New Zealand film into Italian, most recently publishing his article ‘A subtitling stalemate: The Dark Horse in Italian’ in Translation and Translanguaging in Multilingual Contexts. He has been an editorial assistant, translator and researcher for the Journal of Italian Cinema & Media Studies since 2019 and sits on the editorial board of Neke: The New Zealand Journal of Translation.
