Sarah Chaker

Sarah Chaker studied musicology and German at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg (Germany). In her dissertation, published in 2014, she examined the ways in which black and death metal devotees in Germany engage with their music. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Music Sociology at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Austria). In her research, she currently focuses on street music, on specifics of the Vienna school of music sociology, on popular music (in particular metal) and on the innovative potential of Musikvermittlung (i.e., music education, music mediation).
