Sheila R. Canby

Sheila Canby, Curator Emerita at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was Curator in Charge of the Department of Islamic Art at that institution from 2009 to 2019. From 1991 to 2009, she curated Islamic collections at the British Museum. She also worked for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museum. Her publications include The Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp (Yale University Press, 2011 and 2014), Shah ʿAbbas: The Remaking of Iran (British Museum Press, 2009), Hunt for Paradise: Court Arts of Safavid Iran, 1501-76 (Skira, 2003), The Golden Age of Persian Art, 1501-1722 (Abrams, 1999), and Persian Painting (Thames and Hudson, 1993).
